Miami Sun confirm Roster for World Tens Series

The Miami Sun have compiled a squad featuring a number players from the MLR as they prepare for the first round of the World Tens League this Saturday.

The squad has a blend of youth and experience and is headlined by DTH Van der Merwe, a veteran of Four World Cups with the Canadian National team. The winger has an impressive domestic resume playing for clubs in the English Premiership and Pro 14, winning the later title twice with Glasgow and Scarlets.

The forward pack is made up of players largely from the MLR with the impressive Will Vakalahi, a product of Penn State and currently of Old Glory DC, the hooker. Anthony Parry who signed for Rugby United New York earlier this year will play at prop alongside as is fellow American Mike Brown and Canadian international Josh Larsen. The 15-time capped Canada international is currently on the roster of the New England Free Jacks in MLR.

Matthew Hughson, currently unattached, and Luca Tani of the LA Giltinis will cover the lock position, with Samoan Wesley Teo of Belmont Shore and Moses Lalasava the other back row options. WTS Combine athlete Connor Buck completes the forward pack.

USA 7s and 15s international Nick Bowyer and WTS Combine athlete Joey Sok are the half back options. America Samoan born Nolan Tuamoheloa of the Utah Warriors will cover the centre position along with James Stokes who was most recently plying his trade in the Gallagher Premiership with London Irish.  Mark O’Keefe, formerly of Rugby United New York, will also play in the centre.

Tyrie Allen and Mathew Coore, both out of the WTS Combines, will be available as options on the wing along with former Wasps Academy player, Troy Lockyear now with Rugby United New York. Namibia international Janry Du Toit and Marcus Satuva are the utility players, with DTH Van der Merwe another player who can work across the back two positions.
