Introducing THE LONDON ROYALS
The London Royals is the latest World Tens Series (WTS) franchise to be announced and will be heading to Bermuda next month to take part in the inaugural 2020 World Tens Series.
Created as one of eight competing teams, the London Royals have compiled a squad of players who are among the best in the world, especially in the shorter form of the game.
England 7s players Tom Mitchell, Tom Bowen and Alex Davis have already confirmed their places within the Royals squad, with more to follow. All three players have a huge amount of experience, having represented England in the World 7s Series.
Tom Mitchell has played 7s for England over the last eight years and brings a wealth of experience to the team having been England captain. Mitchell was the leading point scorer during the 2013/14 World 7s Series and picked up an Olympic silver medal for Team Great Britain at the 2016 Rio Games.
Tom Bowen featured in all of England’s 2019/20 World 7s Series legs, scoring 11 tries, having made his debut in the Gold Coast leg back in 2014. Alex Davis has been recognised for his devastating attacking play and fearless defence on the 7s pitch and will be an exceptional asset to the London team.
Alex Davis is excited at the prospect of playing for the London Royals. “With no competitive 7s since March, I’m thrilled at the opportunity to play in the World 10s in a unique location alongside some talented players. A super chance to re-engage with the sport I love.”
Tom Bowen added, “it’s been long time since I have played and Tens is such an exciting format of the game, I’m really looking forward to it! To have it in a location like Bermuda is the icing on the cake.”
The World Tens Series, which will see three rounds played over three weekends at the Bermuda National Stadium, kicks off with round one on Saturday 24th October. The 10-a-side tournament will see eight international sides pitted against each other across consecutive days of exhilarating rugby.
The London Royals are the fourth team to be confirmed with four more to be announced.
